B-17 G "Solid Sender"

In 2006 I built this Revell 1/48 scale B-17 G for a friend of mine. He gave it to his grandfather, C.S. Needham, for his 90th birthday. Mr. Needham completed a full tour of duty in 1945 flying this plane for the 388th against Nazi Germany.

I completed a very basic interior, as the view inside the plane was extremely limited. The plane was finished with Alclad, Eduard photo-etch, custom decals, and various weathering techniques. Because of the age of this kit, this was one of the hardest models I've built. I still have nightmares of all the sanding that was required!

Knights Templar by David Lakin

This month David Lakin shares his Knights Templar by Romeo Models. Finished with Vallejo acrylics over a Humbrol primer coat. After the acrylics were applied, the entire surcoat was blended with Windsor and Newton artist's oils. Groundwork is Aves Apoxie Sculpt with a mixture of Elmer's glue and real dirt, finished with Humbrol enamels.

Continental 1780 by David Lakin

David Lakin of Knoxville, TN shares his Elite Miniatures "Continental - Battle of Cowpens, 1780". Humbrol primer coat, finished in Vallejo acrylics. Aves Apoxie groundwork with a mixture of Elmer's glue and real dirt. The groundwork is finished in Humbrol enamels, Ward's static grass and ground oregano leaves.

M-24 Chaffee by Gary Boggs

The Testors/Italeri M-24 Chaffee by Gary Boggs in 2010, mostly out of the box with small, unknown photo-etch for the fender braces, and scratch built tarps. Finished with Tamiya acrylics.
